As a part of our Church of the Future series, we learned that we don’t just have a responsibility for the kids in our own families or even within our own church. Rather, we have a responsibility to raise up the Church of the Future from all children of the world. Here are two ways you can participate right now:
Crossroads NOLA is a faith-based nonprofit dedicated to connecting children in foster care to the families, individuals, and opportunities they need to thrive. There are over 8000 child maltreatment victims in Louisiana every year. Currently, there are over 4000 Louisiana kids in foster care. These kids are among the most vulnerable in our society. Crossroads NOLA works to engage the faith community in this area of need, recognizing that the Church has what every child in foster care requires – a safe, loving family. By recruiting, developing, and supporting foster families from local churches, Crossroads NOLA is increasing the pool of suitable foster families and improving the outcomes of children in our city.
So, what can you do? Begin now to prayerfully consider becoming a foster parent. This may be the last little push that it takes for you to commit to becoming a foster family or it could be the first time that God is placing a burden on your heart. Even if God isn’t calling you to foster, he could be calling you to become a Family Partner who can love, support, and encourage a family who is fostering. Compassion International exists as a Christian child advocacy ministry that releases children from spiritual, economic, social and physical poverty and enables them to become responsible, fulfilled Christian adults. Founded by the Rev. Everett Swanson in 1952, Compassion began providing Korean War orphans with food, shelter, education and health care, as well as Christian training. Today, Compassion helps more than 1.5 million children in 26 countries.
You can make this difference in a child’s life today! For only $38 a month, you could change a child’s life forever. If this is too much of a commitment for you during this season of life but you would still like to help, consider partnering with your community group or with a another friend to sponsor a child together.
