Trust in Jesus
Will you give your life to Jesus?
The greatest decision you can ever make is to follow Jesus.
If you were to read all of the Bible, you would quickly discover a story that is woven throughout its pages. Pastors and theologians describe this grand story in various ways. At Vintage, we explain God’s story as (1) God’s creation, (2) our condition, (3) God’s provision, and (4) our response. Today, this story still impacts us. This story is the gospel, and the gospel is good news for us.
At our very core, we recognize that something greater exists. The Bible teaches this very thing. The Bible begins with God’s existence and his creation of all things (Genesis 1:1). God created everything, including man and woman. When he finished creation “it was very good.” (Genesis 1:1; Genesis 1:31).
Enter the Enemy. In Genesis 3, we learn of a new character who tempts the first humans. This enemy, Satan, was against God. Because of this, he tempted the first humans to distrust God and break his law. Sadly, the humans listened to Satan and disobeyed God. With their disobedient actions, they sinned and were forever separated from God. Today, you and I are still plagued with sin. Because of Adam and Eve’s sin, we are all sinful and therefore guilty before God. At this point, it seems as if there is little hope, but the story is not over. (Genesis 3; Romans 3:23, 6:23).
Throughout history, God provided ways for humanity to know and love him. Yet our sin had still not been fully dealt with. This all changed when God himself became human and dwelt among men. His name was Jesus. Jesus is both fully God and fully human. Through his perfect life, sacrificial death on the cross, and victorious resurrection from the grave, Jesus defeated sin, death, and hell, providing forgiveness for sin and reconciliation between God and humanity. Now, because of Jesus, we can be saved from our sin and and reconciled back to God. (1 Corinthians 15:1-4).
While Jesus did an incredible work for us, salvation requires a response on our part. The Bible says we must repent, or turn, from our sin, trust in Jesus’ death and resurrection for the forgiveness of sin, and submit our lives to him. While we must respond to Jesus, we must never forget that salvation is not because of anything we have done; rather, salvation comes by God’s grace alone, through Christ’s blood alone, and by the Holy Spirit’s work alone. What is holding you back from giving your life to Jesus? Call out to Jesus in your own words, repenting of your sin, trusting in him, and giving your life to him. (Mark 1:14-15; Romans 10:13).
Are you ready to be baptized?
At Vintage Church, we love to celebrate life change. The greatest way we get to celebrate life change is by the way Jesus himself commanded—BAPTISM. Vintage church believes that baptism is a symbolic practice of the church in which new believers in Jesus are immersed in water in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as public obedience to Jesus Christ and as an outward symbol of the believers’ forgiveness of sin and new life in Jesus Christ.
Baptism is an essential part of the Christian life. While nothing about baptism saves you, Jesus commands that we be baptized (Matthew 28:19–20). At Vintage Church, we believe that baptism is by immersion, meaning baptism occurs by being placed completely under water and then brought up out of the water. When someone is baptized by immersion it symbolizes several things. First, it symbolizes how Jesus has washed us of our sins. Second, by being immersed and coming up out of the water, baptism by immersion symbolizes the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. More than anything, when we are baptized, we are identifying with Christ.
Because of the three reasons just listed, baptism is only for those who have repented of their sin, trusted in Jesus, and submitted their life to him. Vintage Church believes that baptism should happen in front of other believers, so we are always ready to baptize someone on any given Sunday!
Does Vintage baptize babies?
No. Vintage Church holds that baptism is a symbolic practice of the church in which [new] believers in Jesus are immersed in water in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as public obedience to Jesus Christ and as an outward symbol of the believers’ forgiveness of sin and new life in Jesus Christ. Because babies cannot place their faith in Jesus, they should not be baptized. While we know that other faith traditions baptize babies, we believe that it represents a different symbol and has a different purpose.
Why does Vintage dedicate babies?
While we don’t baptize babies, we do believe in dedicating them to the Lord. Baby dedication is an act in which both the parents and the church commit to raise a child in such a way that he or she knows that God loves them and has a plan for their life.
When is the next baby dedication?
Vintage Church holds a baby dedication on Sunday biannually. If you’re interested in dedicating your child, contact us.
